Honu Koa Wood Earrings
Presenting the Honu koa wood earrings. This design emulates the petroglyphs Hawaiians had created to record their stories on lava fields and lava rock across the Hawaiian islands. Honu can be observed during nesting season, from June through November, at the Punalu'u Black Sand Beach on the island of Hawai'i.
The Honu Keiki design is made of the finest Hawaiian koa hardwood grown and milled on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Honu Keiki measuring approximately 2-1/2 inches in height and finished with gold-filled findings.
The third image shows the size differential between the Honu 'Ohana, the Honu Keiki, and the Honu Earring designs laid on a burlap material. The Hawaiian word honu is a powerful metaphor for the connection between people, land, and ocean. The honu refers to all sea turtles yet best identifies with Hawaiian green sea turtles.
